The number of athletes registering, continues to grow. 

In 2019, 4 new countries and 276 new athletes, registrate with SUDS.

Project vows to make Down’s syndrome swimmers eligible for Paralympics

A new website designed to promote the “Special 21” project, which aims to make Down’s syndrome swimmers eligible to participate in the Paralympic Games, was launched on Thursday, December 12 at the Conrad Algarve in Quinta do Lago.

Basketball and Judo triumph in Guimarães

Yet another well-organised event as the 2nd Basketball IBA21 and 3rd JUDOWN Open European Championships played out in Guimarães, Portugal.

This has been another busy year for me. For the first time
there has been a Regional Competition for the Americas held in
Morelia in Mexico. Many of you will remember the event in
Morelia for different reasons.

Brazil crowned Futsal kings

And so the 2nd FIFDS World Futsal Championships came to an end.  7 Countries participated in the event which brought much excitement to the city of Ribeirão Preto.  Congratulations to the hosts Brazil, who sealed a 7 – 5 victory against Argentina in the nail-biting final game.

Italian Basketball team wins gold in Portugal

Today, we received a team of blue samples: the Italian National Basketball Syndrome, which was awarded gold to Europeans last October. It was the opportunity to deliver to these extraordinary athletes a recognition from the ministry for sport, to let them know how proud they made us to be represented by them in the international field.
With us there was Carlton Myers, a true legend of our basketball, who didn't want to miss this special date.
 

Success story of Irem with Down's syndrome

Special athlete with Down syndrome İrem Öztekin, the result of his work took the championship. The 100m butterfly is now working for the world championship after the European Open Swimming Championship, where youngsters broke the world record and won five medals.

Andre produces Rivett-ing performance in Portugal

Portugal hosted the Sports Union for Athletes with Down Syndrome (SU-DS) World Championships in Athletics from 14th – 16th October 2017.

For the first time Australia took part in the event sending Brisbane Athlete Andre Rivett, who competed in the Javelin, Shot Put and Discus. Andre is a familiar face in the Athletics scene in Queensland, regularly competing in local, national and international competitions, such as the 2016 Melanesian Championships in Fiji.

Bickley Billy wins eleven gold medals at DSISO European Championships

BICKLEY resident, Billy Birchmore, has won eleven gold medals at the Downs Syndrome International Swimming Organisation’s (DSISO) European Championships.

During an amazing week last month, London South East Colleges student and swimming sensation, Billy won eight individual gold medals at the DSISO European Championships in Paris, France.

NEW CODES for the 2018 World Championships are now on the EVENTS PAGE

The 2nd World Futsal Championship will be held in 2019 in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

FIFDS interim committee

At a meeting on April 14th 2017 an Interim Committee was formed for FIFDS.

This will manage the affairs of FIFDS until the next World FUTSAL Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil 8 - 15 October 2019.

A Meeting there will formally elect the Committee
